Seven days away from the Inaugaration and I don’t have an invitation. What is up with that? Barbara Walters showed off her invitation this morning on The View. It looked very spendy … it was huge and set into a box lined with satin. It kind of looked like a coffin. It was very tasteful though.
Listening to the news … Channel 8 is covering a story about a woman who had breast cancer and donated to the Barack Obama campaign. Long story short – she just got her invitation this morning. So there’s still time! I’m available! Call me! Please?
So I have some suggestions for Michele Obama for the big night. I also have some choices for Mallia and Sasha. Rumor has it that Michael Smith is on the very short list for designing Obama’s wardrobe as First Lady. That said, here are the opinions of Style.com editors:
On the campaign trail, the newly minted fashion icon Michelle Obama was known for supporting up-and-coming designers like CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund participants Thakoon and Jason Wu. Wondering if she would continue with that trend, Style.com asked some of the previous Fashion Fund designers what they think the new First Lady should wear on this very historic day—and here are the sketches they shared with Style.com:

“It’s sexy but sophisticated…business in the front, party in the back. It is the inauguration ball!”

“We would love to see Michelle in this floor-length gown made out of silk and polyester twill in one of our signature prints. It has a classic silhouette that feels very current with an all-over print. With the current economy, it would be very cool of her to wear a contemporary-priced designer to the inaugural ball.”

“For the ball Michelle should wear this ivory one-shoulder silk crepe column with draped overlay and crystal hand-embroidered bodice.”

“The inauguration will be a historic occasion, so I wanted the dress to be something in her comfort zone. I stayed with the tailored, fitted silhouette that she prefers but used a print that I felt was celebratory.”
